A yes vote for the upcoming bond will help relieve downtown traffic congestion by moving 54% of the current Union Ridge and View Ridge student population out of downtown to the proposed new intermediate and middle school campus near the high school. As of the beginning of the 2016 school year, enrollment at Union Ridge Elementary School was 837 students and enrollment at View Ridge Middle School was 421 students. The proposed new campus on Hillhurst will contain 2 schools, a 5th and 6th Intermediate School and a 7th and 8th grade Middle School. When the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students move up to the new campus, that will result in approximately 660 fewer students heading downtown for school in the mornings.
That means more than half of the commuter traffic that participates in morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up will be eliminated from the downtown core!
